Also known as the ‘West Coast Twins’, the villages of Velddrift and Laaiplek are busy fishing centres, situated at the mouth of the Berg River. The River is popular with water sport enthusiasts, and pelicans, flamingoes, spoonbills and the glossy ibis frequent these waters. With it’s mild Mediterranean climate, this area offers year round vacation possibilities.

NATURE

Velddrif is known for it’s unique character, wetlands with abundant birdlife, and fishing industry.

The Berg River Estuary is one of two locations in South Africa that qualifies as a wader hotspot. This estuary is home to nearly 30 000 birds. The Cederberg Wilderness Area as well as the Groot Winterhoek Wilderness Area offers excellent hiking routes.
