Riverbend Chalets

Description

Set amid the splendour of the southern Drakensberg, Riverbend is situated on an 860 acre estate offering every opportunity for the active family holiday. These ground level chalet units are the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding mountain areas as well as take advantage of fishing, tennis, squash, bowl, mini golf, horse riding and swimming offered at the hotel. Spen lazy days around the pool or play 18 holes on the championship golf course, fish for trout in the Kwa Nyoni Dam or sip sundowners at the clubhouse overlooking the water and mountains. The children have their own mini zoo and play ground for hours of entertainment. A scenic 33km drive brings you to the town of Underberg where you will find some interesting curio shops.

Accommodation

The Serviced Chalet consists of 2 bedrooms upstairs and 1 bedroom under the house. The main bedroom has a double bed and en suite bathroom with shower / toilet. The other bathroom contains a bath, toilet and basin. The other upstairs bedroom has 2 single beds. The bedroom under the deck has a double bed and two bunk beds with en suite bathroom with toilet and shower, acess is from outside. There is also a double sleeper couch in the living area. The chalet has a fully equipped kitchen with crockery and cutlery, microwave, stove, oven and fridge/deepfreeze. There is a TV with DSTV in the lounge. Bed linen and bath towels are provided.The outdoor deck is equipped with tables and chairs and there is a braai area (firewood is available from the office.) The chalet has a double carport. There is a monitored alarm system. The Chalet is surrounded by an electric fence, so please ensure that children are made fully aware of this fact. You only have to bring food, beverages, clothes, toiletries and beach towels.

Enjoy the accommodation offered in our Cottage with its superb view across the Umtentweni River Valley. Have breakfast on the verandah and listen to a pair of African Fish Eagles call from their nest just along the riverbank.

Newly constructed, the Cottage can accommodate 6 persons, utilizing the sleeper couch in the lounge. There is a fair-sized lounge and dining area and a handy fully equipped kitchenette. There are two bedrooms, the master has a double bed and the second bedroom has 2 single beds.

There is a shower, toilet and basin in the bathroom.

The lounge opens on to a spacious verandah where one can relax in the sun and listen to the birds.

The cottage is fully secure, surrounded by its own fence, part of which is electric. A single carport and sliding gate provides secure parking on the premises. Dogs are welcome.

As in the case of the Chalet, access to Riverbend Small-holding is permitted. Enjoy rambles along the many winding paths which wend their way about the hills and valley. Birding is really great and butterflies abound. Vervet monkeys and the endangered blue duiker can be seen.

The Lodge

The lodge is situated at the top of Riverbend smallholding and has a commanding view of the Umtentweni River valley and hills. The lodge can accommodate a maximum of 8 people. There are 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Master bedroom with bathroom with toilet, basin and shower en suite and has a double bed. The 2 other bedrooms each have 2 single beds and built in cupboards. The 2nd bathroom has a bath, toilet and basin. There is a double sleeper couch in the longe. Linen and bath towels are provided.

Kitchen is open plan and fully equipped with stove and microwave etc.

Lounge and dining areas are open plan.

DSTV full bouquet available. CD/DVD player present.

The lodge has it's own separate entrance with under cover parking for 2 cars. The Lodge is secured with an electric fence and in house security. Pets are wellcome. All rooms have ceiling fans. All units are service everyday but Sundays and Public holidays.

Facilities include dam and river fishing, canoeing, walking paths and private golf driving range. Intertwining shady paths around the resort provide ample opportunity for walking, and birding. There is a dam stocked with Tilapia available for fishing enthusiasts. Golfers may use our private golf driving range. The property lies alongside the Umtentweni River. Canoes are available for visitors use. However, please note that all rivers in KwaZulu-Natal contain bilharzia. There are many places of interest to visit on the South Coast. Oribi Gorge with its fantastic views, climbs, walks, rides and extreme sports. Margate, a renowned holiday town, is a bare 15 mins away.

Directions

* From Durban take the N2 South Coast freeway to Port Shepstone * After approximately 120km, turn off the N2 at the Port Shepstone North / Umtentweni/ St Faiths off ramp. * After exiting the Toll Plaza, turn left towards the sea and continue for 3kms. You will see the Riverbend Chalets sign on the left. * The Chalets are situated at the end of Bend Road.
